It is a psychological torture chamber.
Ahead of Halloween, a haunted house is hitting the headlines for staging a series of seemingly sadistic experiences, including verbal humiliation and electric shocks.
“I’m in total shock, I can’t believe how far things have gone there,” visitor Liam Gould, 32, told Jam Press, recalling his nightmarish experience in the infamous scream shack.
The haunted house, Enola at Scare Maze, located in Walsall, England is an 18-and-over Halloween experience so terrifying that people must sign a two-page waiver to enter.
Those brave enough to sign the documents can enter six rooms – each with a different theme and actor – to test their psychological stamina through various scares.
This experience can include everything from “nudity” to “muscle stimulation machines” and “removal of personal items/clothing,” Enola’s website warns.
During his haunting phone call to his home, Gould said he was verbally abused, pushed, shocked, shaved, waxed and stripped down to his breasts as a BDSM experience created by the infamous film director horror, Wes Craven.
“I didn’t expect it to be as intense or at the level it was, but I should have known better after signing the waiver,” said the horrified owner of the clothing brand.
The Briton said he was particularly drawn back after encountering “naked actors” inside the haunted house.
And the pain wasn’t just physical. While in the first simulated torture chamber, modeled after a hospital waiting room with patients, Gould said he was belittled and humiliated in the worst possible way.
“If you’re easily offended, this experience won’t be for you,” the thrill seeker warned.
Worst of all, Enola — described as a “bad ride” on the site — is a solo experience, meaning visitors can’t rely on psychological safety in numbers.
“This is only for those who believe they are brave enough to face the sick, the twisted, the weird and the weird,” the fear monger’s website proclaims. “You’ll walk away wondering ‘WTF did I just experience.’
Survivors of the maze of fear were not disappointed by the Scream Huts, which was named “Best Off-Season Experience” at the UK & Europe Scare Awards in 2023.
“I’ve been to every haunted house and Halloween experience,” one attendee said on Instagram, via Jam Press. “This was by far the most intense.â€
Another shared: “We did it. Never again.â€
“Jeez I was so out of it I couldn’t form proper sentences,” said a third.
