A woman admitted she was “nervous” after receiving an unexpected letter from her husband – and now it’s going viral on social media.
“You could have given me a million guesses about how that letter was going to end, and I still wouldn’t have seen this coming,” one person said of the letter, which was shared with X on Tuesday.
Joyy, who goes by @JoyyUnSpeakable on the page, has racked up 32.4 million views with the correspondence, written by her boyfriend, Fred.
“To my wife,” was written on the envelope containing the mysterious letter,
“Ladies… take your pick. I woke up from this stupidity after almost 11 years of marriage”, she wrote in the caption of the post.
Fred began the letter with a disclaimer, writing, “Dear wife, let me start this by saying I love you very much.”
“You mean the world to me. However, I owe it to myself as well as to you to be completely honest with you,” he wrote. “I have to tell my truth. I hate to do it this way, but it’s now or never, because what I’m going to say has to be said.”
After reading the shocking first paragraph, many on social media assumed that Fred would admit to cheating – but what he shared was completely different.
“Tonight, October 22, 2024. marks opening night for the New York Knicks’ 24-25 season,” he explained. “I will watch the game tonight.”
Fred went on to say that from 7pm until the end of the game, he “won’t be a husband or a father”.
“You’re all alone for a few hours,” he said.
Fred said that during this time, he wouldn’t watch their shows with his wife, wouldn’t take the dog out, and wouldn’t put their baby to bed.
“I’ll sit on the couch, drink in hand and watch the game. That’s it,” he said.
“That doesn’t mean I love you guys any less. It just means tonight isn’t about you. It’s about ruining the Boston Celtics ring ceremony,” he declared.
“The rest of the season is negotiable until we reach the playoffs. Then I will have to leave you again temporarily.”
He ended the letter by saying that if his wife had any questions, she could call him and discuss – but only AFTER the game.
After reading her husband’s formal letter, Joey texted her: “I gave you almost 12 years of my life just for you to leave me a letter like that???” to which he replied, “I had to be true to myself!!! Even if it hurts.”
Joy also shared in response to her original post that her husband did indeed watch the game — but he didn’t abandon being a father or a husband.
“He got food and ice cream on his way home from work. I’m on the couch talking to him while the game is on. I hope he doesn’t leave me,” she said, sharing a video of her and her son watching the game with Fred.
People in the comments were shocked at what the letter ended up saying.
“I’m not going to lie, I was NOT expecting this, it got me going at halftime,” wrote one. Kudos to you both for having a nice marriage and messing with each other. You need to bring it back and get us a Part 2!”
“This is GOLD! I would have approved giving him beers and chips in a heartbeat,” another replied.
“Girl you scared me,” said a third. “Omg, I thought he was divorcing you via a handwritten letter.”
